Dormition of the Mother of God Church in Sebeș
The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Sebeș is located in the city cemetery and is known as the Old Church. It was built of brick between 1778 and 1783, next to an older church whose apse survives, converted into a crypt. The church belonged to the Orthodox community of Sebeș from the beginning.
The building has a rectangular nave, a semicircular apse and a bell tower on the western side. A smaller porch marks the side entrance from the south. The interior is covered with a semi-cylindrical vault, and the apse keeps murals painted by Sava Henția. Its setting among the graves and the silhouette of its metal-roofed tower set the church apart from the others in the town.
