Dormition of the Mother of God Church in Vălenii de Munte

Vălenii de Munte, Prahova

The Monastery Church, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, stands on Berevoiești Street in Vălenii de Munte. It was built in 1680, during the reign of Șerban Cantacuzino, by Hagi Stoian, a clucer (a boyar official in charge of the princely court’s provisions), and his wife, Ilinca.

The fortress of Teleajen, which Stephen the Great captured and burned in 1474, is believed to have stood on this site. The church has a tower with a bulb-shaped roof and white facades with yellow borders.
