Dragomirna Monastery

Dragomirna, Suceava

Dragomirna Monastery is located in Mitocu Dragomirnei commune, Suceava county, close to the forest of the same name. The large church, completed in 1609, was founded by Metropolitan Anastasie Crimca and stands out for its narrow and very high proportions and for its richly carved spire.

The facades have a rope-shaped stone girdle, and the spire decorations combine geometric and vegetal motifs. Strong walls and towers built in the seventeenth century enclose the monastery courtyard. The complex preserves the refectory and historic rooms, and its heritage includes manuscripts with miniatures, related to Anastasie Crimca's workshop.
