Ethnographic Museum in Piatra Neamț
The Museum of Ethnography in Piatra Neamț presents the village culture of Neamț in a neo-Romanian building from 1924, once the home of a school principal. The museum opened in this building in 1980. Part of the collection comes from fieldwork in the villages of the Bistrița Valley before the Bicaz reservoir was created.
The “Seasons of the Village” exhibition follows the work and festivals of the year. A reconstructed house interior recreates the late nineteenth century, and the rooms bring together festive costumes, textiles, wooden objects and props for winter customs. Reproductions of photographs by Adolph Chevallier round out the display with images of the people and rural life of old Neamț.
