Ethnography and Folk Art Museum in Tulcea
The Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art in Tulcea occupies the former headquarters of the local agency of the National Bank of Romania. The building was erected between 1924 and 1927, following a project that uses forms of traditional Romanian architecture in an interwar public edifice. The location at the intersection highlights the composition of the facades. Inside, the collections explore the life, traditional dress and crafts of the communities of Dobrogea, a region where many ethnic groups coexisted.
The museum's heritage includes traditional towels, carpets, metal vessels, folk wear, ethnographic objects and documentary photographs. A distinct collection is dedicated to Aromanian folk art. Textiles and household objects show working techniques, decorative patterns and customs preserved in the households of the region. The museum belongs to the "Gavrilă Simion" Eco-Museum Research Institute and organizes exhibitions and educational activities.
