Evangelical Cathedral in Sibiu
The Evangelical Cathedral in Piața Huet, Sibiu, is a Gothic construction developed between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries on the site of an older church. The high tower, with four turrets at the corners of the roof, is visible above the historic center and recalls the old judicial privileges of the city.
Inside are preserved vaults with stone ribs, carved portals and numerous tombstones. Ferula, the room on the western side, houses part of the funerary monuments. The large organ and medieval paintings complete the heritage of the church, which became a cathedral in 1867, when the evangelical episcopal seat was moved from Biertan to Sibiu.
