Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church in Miercurea Ciuc
The Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church in Miercurea Ciuc was built between 1751 and 1758, in the Baroque style. The church has an oblong nave, a tower on the main facade and an added chapel on the north side. The Chapel of Saint John Nepomuk dates from 1771; it and the church were consecrated together in 1784 by bishop Ignác Batthyány.
The main altar, made by the sculptor Antal Schuchbauer, combines the crucifix with a Golgotha relief and a painted background. Statues and ornaments made of linden wood have a decoration that imitates marble. In the upper part appears the Last Supper, surrounded by angels. The organ was built in 1902, and the extensive restoration of 2006–2008 restored the ensemble affected by degradation and fires.
