Fire Watchtower in Caracal

Caracal, Olt

The Fire Watchtower in Caracal is the observation tower erected to watch for fires in the city. The construction, dated at the beginning of the twentieth century, has a tall circular body and an upper platform from where one could watch the smoke rising above the houses. It was located in the area of the old princely court.

The tower recalls the organization of the local fire service before its militarization in 1936. Its vertical silhouette and narrow windows stand out among the surrounding buildings. The visit focuses on the exterior of the tower and its utilitarian architecture.
