First Romanian School

Brașov, Brașov

The First Romanian School Museum is located in the courtyard of Saint Nicholas Church in Șcheii Brașovului, in Brașov county. The school is first documented at the end of the fifteenth century, and the building keeps the two-story form it acquired in the eighteenth century. Its rooms house old benches, books, documents and objects related to Romanian education.

The exhibition recalls the work of Deacon Coresi, who printed books in Romanian in Brașov in the sixteenth century. The Anton Pann Room recreates an old classroom. The manuscripts and printed books in the collection are linked to the teachers and priests of Șchei, who taught, translated and copied texts for school and church.
