Florești Monastery

Florești, Vaslui

The Florești Monastery is located in the village of Florești, Poienești commune, Vaslui county. The large church, dedicated to Saint Elijah, was built in the nineteenth century and consecrated in 1883 on the site of an older monastery, linked to the foundation of the Ghenovici family at the end of the sixteenth century.

The Neo-Gothic building is recognizable by its high windows, pointed arches and the vertical proportions of the facades. The ensemble is classified as a historical monument and preserves the connection with the old boyar estates in the Bârlad area. The abbot's palace next to the church today houses a museum of history and religious art.
