Fortified Church in Hărman
The Hărman fortified church is located in the center of the commune of the same name, in Brașov county. The thirteenth-century church was gradually surrounded by walls, towers and refuge spaces for the villagers. Inside, elements of the old Romanesque basilica are preserved, along with later Gothic modifications.
In a tower on the eastern side of the fortification there is a chapel with medieval wall paintings. The scenes include the Last Judgment, the Crucifixion and episodes from the life of the Virgin Mary. The defensive galleries and the rooms in the enclosure show how the Saxon community organized its refuge during sieges.
