Fortified Church in Valea Viilor
At Valea Viilor, in Sibiu county, the fortified evangelical church rises in the center of the village and is included in the UNESCO world heritage. The medieval church, originally dedicated to Saint Peter, received in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries defensive arrangements that greatly changed its appearance.
A massive tower rises above the choir, supported by buttresses, and on the opposite side is the bell tower. The surrounding enclosure wall, towers and spaces used to shelter the community are preserved. The defense galleries and narrow openings can be seen on the outside, and the Gothic vaults and liturgical furniture can be distinguished in the church.
