Fortress Park in Deva

Deva, Hunedoara

The Deva Citadel Park occupies the land at the foot of the citadel hill, near the Magna Curia. The area was part of the estate of the princely residence, and an inventory from 1756 mentions flower gardens, vegetable gardens and a menagerie here. The transformation into a public park took place between 1886 and 1893, followed by planting and landscaping works.

The alleys, trees and lawns form a green space linked to the old city center. At the main entrance is the statue of Decebal, made by Radu Mânzat-Moga and inaugurated in 1937. The park was expanded in several stages during the interwar period, including by integrating the lands in the vicinity of the historical residences. The walk takes place at the base of the hill, around the public paths of the park.
