Gai Monastery
The Gai Monastery is located in the northwest of Arad, on Dunării street, in the neighborhood of the same name. The ensemble was built between 1760 and 1762 by Bishop Sinesie Jivanovici and includes the church and the former episcopal residence. The tower with a curved roof, the decorated facade and the entrance framed in stone preserve the architecture of the eighteenth century.
In the church there is an iconostasis painted by Ștefan Tenețchi in 1767, and the altar houses the graves of some bishops of Arad. The ensemble was completed by bringing the wooden church from Seliștea de Mureș. The church art collection brings together icons, old books and objects of worship from the diocese. The visit can follow the courtyard and the buildings of the monastery; for the collection and interiors, access is checked with the monastic community, especially during services.
