Gheorghe Dumitroaia Museum of Cucuteni Eneolithic Art

Piatra Neamț, Neamț

The “Gheorghe Dumitroaia” Museum of Cucuteni Eneolithic Art in Piatra Neamț is devoted to the art of a prehistoric civilization that spread across Moldavia and beyond Romania’s present borders. The exhibition places decorated vessels and figurines side by side, highlighting two strands of Cucuteni art: pottery decoration and the depiction of people and animals.

The museum has been operating since 2005 in the former Petrodava Bank, a Neo-Romanian building from 1927–1928. Designed by Roger Bolomey and decorated by Vincenzo Puschiasis, it is located in the historic center near the Princely Court. The International Research Center for the Cucuteni Culture works in the same building. The museum's collection lets visitors look closely at the shapes, painted motifs and sculptural details of objects made thousands of years ago.
