Gheorghe Petrașcu House and Studio in Târgoviște

Târgoviște, Dâmbovița

The Gheorghe Petrașcu house-workshop in Târgoviște preserves the painter's workplace, in a building erected in 1922 on Bărăției street. The artist worked here between 1923 and 1943, and the workshop became a museum in 1970. The large window, oriented to the north and to the garden, shows how important light was in the organization of the painting space. The visit takes place in a small house, directly related to the artist's activity.

The works presented by the museum follow frequent motifs in Petrașcu's painting: landscapes, flowers and images inspired by travels. Târgoviște appears alongside places seen in Italy, Spain, Egypt or in Balchik. The paintings and engravings can be viewed in relation to the workshop where the artist returned to work.
