God's Bridge
Ponoarele, Mehedinți
God's Bridge is located in Ponoarele commune, Mehedinți County. The limestone natural arch is what remains of a cave ceiling after other sections collapsed. The opening can be seen close to the road that runs through the center of the village.
Stone layers form the thick vault and the walls that support it. Other karst formations can be found in the surroundings, including areas of limestone pavement and Ponoarele Cave. Over time, water dissolved and broke up the limestone, leaving the arch that gave the place its name and inspired many local legends.
