Golia Monastery
Iași, Iași
Golia Monastery is in the Târgu Cucu area of Iași, Iași County. Its name comes from the chancellor Ioan Golia, founder of an older church. The current church was built in the seventeenth century with the support of Vasile Lupu and his son Ștefăniță.
The high walls, the bell tower and the corner towers give the enclosure the look of a fortress. The church combines Renaissance forms with an interior layout in the Byzantine tradition. You can see pilasters and cornices on the facades, and several towers rise above the roof. The courtyard also keeps buildings linked to the history of monastic life here.
