Hagi Prodan Merchant's House

Ploiești, Prahova

Casa de Târgoveț Hagi Prodan in Ploiești is a house built around 1785, preserved today as a museum. The porch and the organization of the rooms are characteristic of the houses in Prahova’s market towns, and the stucco decorations added in the nineteenth century retain Brâncovenesc influences. Restored after the First World War by the care of Nicolae Iorga and the architect Toma T. Socolescu, the house had an important role in the beginnings of Ploiești museography.

The exhibition follows the interior of a merchant's dwelling from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Carved furniture, fabrics and oriental objects show the tastes and trade connections of the era. In the sacnasiu, the secluded space intended for rest and conversation, small tables with marquetry, kilims and spice dishes are presented. The details of the ceiling and interior design are worth a close look. The museum on Democrației street offers an encounter with the domestic life of old Ploiești.
