Heroes Monument in Caracal
The Heroes' Monument in Piața Victoriei, in the center of Caracal, commemorates the soldiers from Romanați who fell in the First World War. The ensemble is the work of the sculptor Ioan Schmidt and was inaugurated in 1927. Three bronze statuary groups are arranged on a stone plinth, and the commemorative plaques preserve the names of the officers and the dedication addressed to the heroes.
The sculpted figures and scenes can be seen from around the plinth, from the public square. The monument continues to be the site of municipal ceremonies dedicated to military memory; wreaths were also laid here on Independence Day, in May 2026. The location in the center of the city allows it to be observed together with the buildings and pedestrian spaces of Piața Victoriei.
