History and Archaeology Museum in Tulcea

Tulcea, Tulcea

The Museum of History and Archeology in Tulcea is located in the Independence Monument Park, in the area of the ancient fortress of Aegyssus. The permanent exhibition traces the history of the Danube mouths from prehistory to the nineteenth century, through archaeological finds and coins. The museum opened its history and archeology exhibition in 1975, and its collections were developed through research carried out in Northern Dobrogea. The headquarters includes two exhibition pavilions and is part of the "Gavrilă Simion" Eco-Museum Research Institute.

A distinct point of the circuit is the Northern Dobrogean Treasury, opened in 2007. Gold and silver ornaments, coin hoards, clothing accessories, religious objects and old books are presented here. The "Blood of the Martyrs" exhibition traces the beginnings of Christianity in the region. Among its exhibits is the reliquary discovered in the Niculițel basilica, restored in the institute's laboratories.
