History Museum in Târgoviște

Târgoviște, Dâmbovița

The Museum of History in Târgoviște occupies the former Palace of Justice, on Calea Domnească, near the Princely Court. The building was erected at the beginning of the twentieth century, and the museum exhibition was inaugurated here in 1986. The monumental facade, with an entrance framed by columns, preserves the character of a public institution in the old city. Inside, the permanent route traces the history of the region from prehistory to the First World War.

The visit brings together archaeological discoveries and testimonies of the historical eras that Târgoviște went through. The ground floor is used for temporary exhibitions and cultural events, while the permanent exhibition is located upstairs. The museum can be linked in a walk to the Art Museum and the monuments on Calea Domnească, each with its own headquarters and its own visiting route.
