Holy Archangels Church in Brăila
The Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel is located in Piața Traian, in the old center of Brăila. The building served as a mosque during Ottoman rule and was permanently converted into an Orthodox church in 1831. The low silhouette, without the usual spiers of a church, makes this history visible. The white facade, the simple entrance and the wide roof distinguish it from the monumental churches erected later in the city.
When you stop here, it is worth noticing how the old building was adapted for Orthodox worship, including the addition of the altar apse. The tree-lined courtyard also gives a good view of the building's proportions. The church is an active place of worship, so seeing the interior depends on whether access is allowed and on the services being held. From here, the walk can continue through Piața Traian.
