Holy Archangels Wooden Church in Rogoz

Rogoz, Târgu Lăpuș, Maramureș

The wooden church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Rogoz, a village that belongs to the town of Târgu Lăpuș, is one of the wooden churches in Maramureș included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Tradition dates it to 1663.

The inscription at the entrance recalls the Tatar invasion of 1661: "since there was captivity in Transylvania". The church has a tall tower with a pointed spire and a large shingle roof, and carved wooden brackets can be seen under the eaves.
