Holy Trinity Cathedral in Blaj

Blaj, Alba

The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Blaj was built between 1741 and 1749 according to the plans of the Viennese architects Anton Erhard Martinelli and Johann Martinelli. It is the cathedral of the Romanian Church United with Rome and a representative building for Transylvanian baroque.

The two large towers were added in 1838. The painting of the dome, from 1748–1749, shows Jesus surrounded by eight popes, painted by Iacob Zugravul.
