Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Bistrița

Bistrița, Bistrița-Năsăud

The Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity in Bistrița is located on Gheorghe Șincai Street, in the complex of the former Piarist monastery. Built between 1781 and 1787 by Anton Turk to plans by Paul Schmidt, the church has a single nave and a tower set into the main facade. The facade decoration and the gilded surfaces inside belong to the late Baroque and Rococo styles.

The inscription on the tower recalls the support of Emperor Joseph II for the construction of the church. The complex was built in the area of the town's old medieval hospital, which had been destroyed by the fire of 1758. The Piarist secondary school, which played an important role in local education, operated next to the church. The facade, the entrance and the tower can be seen from the street; visits to the interior must respect the services and the parish's access conditions.
