House with Griffins in Câmpina

Câmpina, Prahova

Casa cu Grifoni is one of the easily recognizable buildings of Câmpina and houses the town hall. It was built at the beginning of the twentieth century for the family of Gheorghe Ștefănescu, during a period of development related to the oil industry. The richly decorated facade and carved elements give it a different appearance from that of an ordinary administrative building.

The name of the house refers to the griffins in the decoration, fantastic creatures that can be sought among the architectural details. For tourists, the main interest is the exterior and the way the building expresses the prosperity of old Câmpina. The activity of the town hall does not include a permanent museum route inside. The stop to observe the facades can be integrated into a walk on the Bulevardul Culturii, along with other landmarks of the city.
