Humor Monastery

Mănăstirea Humorului, Suceava

In Mănăstirea Humorului commune, Suceava county, the church of Humor Monastery was built in 1530 by the chancellor Toader Bubuiog. The church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Saint George is known for its exterior frescoes, where reddish tones predominate, and for its open porch.

The church is part of the UNESCO world heritage. Religious scenes and compositions with numerous characters can be seen on the walls, and the ruins of monastic houses are preserved in the courtyard. The tower built by Vasile Lupu in 1641 recalls the defensive role of the ensemble, together with the bell tower from a later stage.
