Hungarian Greek Catholic Church in Carei

Carei, Satu Mare

The Hungarian Greek-Catholic Church in Carei is an eighteenth-century church, recognizable by its facade with two towers. The brick construction began in 1736, at the initiative of Demetriu Raț, administrator of the Károlyi domain, and was completed in 1739. The town hall presents it as the oldest church in the city.

The two towers flank the eastern facade, and a dome rises above the nave. Another dome, with a lantern, covers the apse of the altar. The silhouette with several vertical ends distinguishes it from the churches with a single tower in Carei. Interior visits are established in advance with the parish, for groups.
