Huniade Castle

Timișoara, Timiș

Huniade Castle in the center of Timișoara, Timiș County, is the historical headquarters of the National Museum of Banat. The building is under restoration, and the museum's temporary exhibitions are housed at the Theresia Bastion, on Martin Luther Street no. 4.

The medieval residence of King Charles Robert of Anjou was located on this site. Ioan de Hunedoara built the fifteenth-century castle between 1443 and 1447, over the ruins of the previous construction. The building went through several renovations, including in 1856, and the museum moved here in 1948.

For a visit to the exhibitions, the starting point is the Theresia Bastion; information about access to the castle is announced by the National Museum of Banat.
