Hurezi Monastery

Romanii de Jos, Vâlcea

The Hurezi monastery is located in Romanii de Jos, a locality of the city of Horezu, Vâlcea county. Built by Constantin Brâncoveanu between 1690 and 1693, it is one of the representative ensembles of the Brâncovenesc style and is included in the UNESCO world heritage.

The large church, dedicated to the Holy Emperors Constantine and Helena, has a porch with arches and carved columns. Galleries, cells, the chapel and rooms of the former princely residence are preserved around the courtyard. The wall painting, the portraits of the founders and the decoration in stone and wood document the work of the craftsmen who worked here in the late seventeenth century.
