On Hydra, one of the Saronic Islands, cars and motorcycles are banned by law, and people get around by horse, mule, donkey and water taxi. The large sea captains' mansions around the harbour show the wealth that shipping brought to the island. In the 1950s and 1960s singer Leonard Cohen lived here and wrote “Bird on the Wire” and “So Long, Marianne” on the island.
