Iancu Jianu Memorial House in Caracal

The Iancu Jianu Memorial House preserves the memory of the outlaw Iancu Jianu (1787–1842), hero of many folk songs, who also fought in the Revolution of 1821. The house was probably built at the end of the eighteenth century by his father, the cupbearer Costache Jianu.
It has a ground floor, a first floor and a cellar. The front door is solid oak with hand-wrought iron hinges, and the cellar has small windows and crenellations, probably used for defence. The house is a section of the Romanați Museum.
