Iezer Monastery

Cheia, Băile Olănești, Vâlcea

The Iezer Monastery is located in the village of Cheia, on the territory of the town of Băile Olănești, in a wooded valley at the foot of the Căpățânii Mountains. The stone church has a history that goes back to the sixteenth century and was rebuilt at the beginning of the eighteenth century with the support of Bishop Hilarion and Saint Antonie. The painted facades and the open porch can be seen from the courtyard of the monastery.

Above the monastery is preserved the rock-hewn cell where Antonie de la Iezer lived. The church and the cell are part of the same visit, but the ascent to the cell is on foot. The monastery remains active, and the visit must take into account the services and the directions of the community.
