Infantryman's Monument in Turnu Măgurele

Turnu Măgurele, Teleorman

The Dorobanț Monument stands in the park in the commercial center of Turnu Măgurele. The statue was made in 1907 by the Italian sculptor Raffaello Romanelli, in memory of the soldiers of the War of Independence. It is also known as Tudorică Dorobanțul, after Corporal Tudorică Nicolae, who fell in the battles of 1877.

The bronze soldier, with his rifle by his leg and one arm outstretched, stands on a tall plinth decorated with reliefs. The front shows an eagle with spread wings, and cannons stand on either side. The monument can be seen from the street; together, the statue and the plinth form the memorial included in the List of Historical Monuments.
