Ion Creangă Memorial House in Humulești
Humulești, Neamț
The “Ion Creangă” Memorial House is in Humulești, part of the town of Târgu Neamț, Neamț County. Built around 1830 by the writer's grandfather, Petrea Ciubotariul, the house became a museum in 1951. Its clay-covered log walls and broad wooden-shingle roof follow the pattern of the local peasant house.
The main room has a stove with an oven, a dowry chest, benches, festive clothes and tools for spinning and weaving. The entrance hall and pantry complete the interior. The household objects and the yard evoke the world of the narrator's childhood, described in “Childhood Memories”, and the house has recently undergone restoration work.
