Ion Ionescu-Quintus Prahova County Art Museum

Ploiești, Prahova

The Prahova Ion Ionescu-Quintus County Museum of Art operates in the Ghiță Ionescu Palace, on Independence Boulevard in Ploiești. The institution grew out of the picture gallery founded in 1931, and its present building has housed the museum since 1969. The building was first a private residence and then the seat of the Prefecture. The decorated facades and interiors are part of the appeal, along with the Romanian art collections.

The museum's heritage brings together painting, graphics, sculpture and decorative art, with a focus on Romanian art from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Temporary exhibitions periodically bring other works to the public's attention. The palace can be included in a walk along Independence Boulevard, where the residential architecture of old Ploiești provides a natural context for the visit.
