Ion Irimescu Art Museum

Fălticeni · Suceava

On Mihai Eminescu Street in Fălticeni, the Ion Irimescu Art Museum occupies the building of the former prefecture. The museum was opened in 1975, starting from the sculptor's donation to the city. The exhibition brings together sculptures, drawings and graphic works, together with books from the artist's personal library.

Portraits, silhouettes and compositions dedicated to motherhood, music or relationships between people appear in the rooms. The works use different materials, from wood and marble to bronze, and the drawings show stages of the artist's quest. A memorial part preserves the space where Irimescu lived in the last years of his life. The visit can thus follow both the evolution of his sculpture and the connection with Fălticeni, the city to which he entrusted a large part of the work.
