Ion Luca Caragiale Museum in Ploiești

Ploiești, Prahova

The Ion Luca Caragiale Museum in Ploiești is located in Casa Dobrescu, on Kutuzov Street, in an old building with a porch that preserves the image of the townspeople’s houses of the past. The museum was inaugurated in 1962 and traces the playwright's connection with the city where he went to school. The documents, photographs and objects presented evoke the author's family, training and literary activity, in a space similar in scale to a home.

The visit provides a context for meeting the world of Caragiale's plays and literary sketches, through testimonies about the people and the environment in which he was formed. The architecture of the house is worth noting separately: the porch, pillars and rooms preserve a type of construction rarely found in the city center today. It is a museum dedicated to the writer, set up in a historic house, suitable to complete a walk through old Ploiești.
