Ion Zidaru House

Bistrița, Bistrița-Năsăud

Casa Ion Zidaru occupies a corner of the Central Square in Bistrița, at number 30. The building preserves Gothic elements from the fifteenth century and Renaissance details added at the beginning of the sixteenth century. The facades and stone frames show the age of a house located in the commercial and administrative center of the medieval city.

In city documents, the house appears linked to several owners. City magistrate Andreas Beuchel owned it between 1520 and 1531, then it was bought by archivist Christian Pomarius. In 1538 it came into the possession of the church builder Johannes Murator, known as Ioan Zidarul, from whom the current name comes. The facades can be seen from the square. Entry into the building depends on the use of the premises and the conditions set by those who manage them.
