Iron Gates Region Museum
The Iron Gates Region Museum is located in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Mehedinți County, near Drobeta Roman Fort. The museum grew out of the collection put together in 1912 by Professor Alexandru Bărcăcilă. The exhibitions trace the history and natural environment of the Danube, from prehistory to the modern era.
The collections include archaeological finds, Roman inscriptions, coins, documents and ethnographic objects. One section presents the flora and fauna of the Iron Gates Gorge, and the aquarium is dedicated to aquatic life. Ceramics, traditional dress and fabrics from the region round out the picture of the communities living along the river.
