Jewish Cemetery in Sighetu Marmației

The Jewish cemetery in Sighetu Marmației is located on Szilágyi István street and holds the gravestones of a community that shaped the town's history. The inscriptions, carved on stones of different shapes and sizes, let you trace the names and generations of Sighet families.

Inside the cemetery there are rabbis' graves and monuments to the Jews deported during the Holocaust. Some memorial stones commemorate people who died at Auschwitz and are not buried here. The cemetery is a place of remembrance, and access is arranged with the Jewish community. It is separate from the Cemetery of the Poor, linked to the memory of political prisoners.
