Lázár Castle in Lăzarea
Lázár Castle is located in Lăzarea commune, Harghita county, on the edge of the Giurgeu Depression. The residence of the Lázár family was built and expanded in successive stages, with Renaissance elements. The enclosure walls and corner towers frame a wide courtyard, and the facades retain stone door and window frames and stone decoration.
The buildings have been through fires, destruction and restoration, so the ensemble combines preserved parts with rebuilt sections. The castle is linked to the childhood of Prince Gabriel Bethlen and the history of the Szekler nobility. Nearby is the Franciscan monastery of Lăzarea. Check with the castle administrator about access to the rooms and any exhibitions.
