Libearty Bear Sanctuary
In Zărnești, in Brașov County, the Libearty Sanctuary houses bears rescued from captivity and animals that need constant care. The project started in 2005 as a partnership between the Milioane de Prieteni Association, World Animal Protection and the town hall. The sanctuary covers 69 hectares of forest.
The bears have trees to climb, pools of water, a suitable diet and veterinary care. The guided tours are educational and present the stories of the animals, their needs and the effects of captivity. Visits follow the sanctuary's rules, which put the bears' peace and care first. Check the access conditions on the association's website before you go.
