Liberty Square in Baia Mare
Piața Libertății takes the place of the old medieval market in Baia Mare and remains a landmark of the historic center. The houses that surround it retain facades and details from different stages of the city's development. The mostly pedestrian space allows you to observe the ensemble without a complicated route: you can start from a corner and follow the outline of the square, stopping at frames, entrances and roofs.
Among the historical buildings mentioned in the municipality's documentation are Casa Elisabeta and the former Inn Vulturul Negru. For a first visit, a look from the outside is enough, then a continuation towards the nearby streets. The Ștefan Tower can be seen from the area, but it is located in Piața Cetății, a distinct space. Libertății Square thus preserves its own outline and its own history, linked to the old commercial center of the city.
