Lipovan Church in Rădăuți

Rădăuți, Suceava

The Lipovan church in Rădăuți was built in 1900 by Russians of the old rite, called Lipovans, on Libertății street no. 8, near the central square. It is dedicated to Saint Basil the Great, whose feast is celebrated on January 1/14.

The Lipovans came to Moldavia in the eighteenth century, after they refused the changes made in the Russian Church by Patriarch Nikon. In the 1980s, the sexton Ivan Timofeiov equipped the church with bells.
