Living Fire at Lopătari
Access to the Living Fire from Lopătari was blocked in July 2026; reopening is not confirmed. Near the village of Terca, in the commune of Lopătari in Buzău county, Focul Viu appears where natural gases come out through cracks in the earth and feed flames on the surface. The scorched patch of land contrasts with the surrounding hills, and the flames change size depending on gas pressure and weather. The place is part of the Ținutul Buzăului UNESCO Geopark.
At the check in October 2026, access to the paths that cross the private lands remains unconfirmed for tourists. Before traveling, the announcements of the Lopătari City Hall and the geopark must be consulted; fences and access restrictions must be respected.
