Lolaia Waterfall
Lolaia Waterfall is in the northern part of Retezat National Park, Hunedoara County, in the Nucșoara Valley, on the approach from the villages of Nucșoara and Cârnic. The water splits into two falls among the rocks, in a hollow bordered by woodland. From the viewpoint, you can see both the rock steps and the place where the streams gather at the base of the waterfall.
At about 1,050 meters above sea level, it lies on one of the access routes to the Retezat mountain trails. A local legend links the two streams to the braids of a shepherdess named Lolaia. A stop at the waterfall can be the start of a longer hike, but each trail to the huts and lakes has its own length and difficulty. On the way down to the viewpoint, watch out for steps, roots and wet surfaces.
