Longhorn Cowfish

Longhorn Cowfish

Lactoria cornuta
Two long horns stick out from the front of its head, like those of a cow or a bull, which is where its name comes from. It lives on reefs in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, usually alone, over sand or rubble bottoms down to 50 m, and can grow to 50 cm. It eats algae, sponges, worms and small crustaceans, which it uncovers by blowing jets of water into the sand.
