Lower Danube Museum
The Lower Danube Museum is in Călărași, Călărași County, with its main building on Progresului Street. The institution was founded in 1951 and grew around the region’s archaeological collections. The museum building is an architectural monument from the end of the nineteenth century.
The collections include pottery and prehistoric figurines from Sultana–Malu Roșu, Roman oil lamps, ornaments and Byzantine ceramics from Păcuiul lui Soare. Coins and everyday objects round out the story of the Danube communities. The museum also has ethnography and art collections, and some sections are housed in other buildings in the city, separate from the main one.
